"My fil David James,a Tuskegee Airman, was a visitor at your place in 2012 and we would like to know if we could schedule a visit with him. He does not talk much abput his experiences during the war unless he is around airplanes. It would be good for some of his family to learn more. If you can, please reply regarding some possible time in the spring."

"Recently, I had the good fortune to discover your WONDERFUL web site. I couldn't help but notice the rather incomplete history of your P-51D N251PW "Baby Duck". Please be informed that for the last five years or so, I've been writing an illustrated complete history about all of the Mustangs that have been registered with the F.A.A.. Of course, the complete history of "Baby Duck" is included in the project. I'm taking the liberty to enclose a copyrighted selection from the manuscript about N251PW. You have my permission to publish it on your web site provided you follow the copyright laws of the United States and give credit where credit is due ACTUALOFFICIAL REGISTRATIONS IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER SERIAL SERIAL 44-72086 = N789DH N510JS N251PW TP-51D. C/N 122-31945. North American/Aero Classics. The aircraft's backseat has complete instrumentation and controls. 44-72086 was one of the first of twelve new replacement Mustangs included in the initial order of 46 P-51D 20-NA’s destined for the Royal Swedish Air Force. The airplanes were assigned to the 1409th Army Air Force Base Unit (AAFBU), that was based at Station 366, at the Air Transport Command European Depot Air Base, Metfield, near Norwich, Suffolk, England. Under "Project Speedy", the unit was entrusted with the logistics associated with the first delivery of P-51Ds to the Swedish government in March 1945. The aircraft became #26009 with the Flygvapnet and was assigned to the F16 Wing of the Royal Swedish Air Force until 1953. While with the Wing, "26009" was named "Elvira" (L) and coded Red E. Additionally, the airplane was emblazoned with the cartoon figure of "Panchito" (L). After Swedish service, the Mustang was sold to the Government of the Dominican Republic to become part of the Fuerza Aerea Dominicana (FAD) as #1936 and was initially assigned to the Escuadron Caza Ramfis primarily based at the San Isidro air base. Between 1964 and early 1965, #1936 was one of approximately twenty-seven P-51Ds refurbished by Trans-Florida Aviation, Inc., at TFA's Sarasota, Florida, facility. After the downfall of the Dominican Dictator Rafael Trujillo, the aircraft was assigned to the Escuadron De Combate. Starting in July of 1968, under the authority of the United States Government's Military Assistance Program (MAP) and "Project Peace Hawk", #1936 was one of 12 to 15 Mustangs subjected to renovation and modification by a Field Team of the Cavalier Aircraft Corporation. The general overhaul and IRAN (inspect and repair as necessary) program was performed at the San Isidro air base of the Fuerza Aerea Dominicana. During the early months of 1984, prior to being removed from service, the aircraft underwent an in-house IRAN program that was performed by the mechanics of the Grupo de Maintenamiento at the San Isidro airbase. On 21 November 1968, the airplane suffered extensive damage during a forced landing. While undergoing a protracted rebuild, the Mustang’s backseat area was fitted with rudimentary instruments and controls. Eventually, the aircraft was returned to service. On 19 May 1984, the remaining fleet of FAD P-51D’s were purchased by Mr. Brian O'Farrell of Miami, Florida. After an ownership change, #1936 was assembled by Fort Wayne Air Service, Inc. at Baer Field, Indiana, as "Baby Duck”. From 1996 to 2008 the aircraft languished in storage. In December of 2008, the airplane was acquired by the Warbird Heritage Foundation, Waukegan, Illinois. Subsequently, the airplane was crated and shipped to East Troy, Wisconsin, to be restored by Tab-Air, Inc. The Mustang’s first post restoration flight took place on 8 July 2011 at the capable hands of Mr. Vlado Lenoch. Flyable. Copyright (c) 2002 through 2013 by J. L. Dienst and L. Hellstrom. Before I close, I thought you might like to know that I have a number of high resolution color scans of FAD 1936 taken after its forced landing, and during its last IRAN that I'll be happy to share with you. If interested, Please contact me at the following E-mail Address. Sincerely, John L. Dienst"
