Dwight Beuthling
My military career began when I enlisted in the Army in 1967. I took Basic Training at Ft. Campbell, KY, and I attended AIT at Ft. Rucker, AL, for helicopter maintenance on Bell UH-1 helicopters.
I served my first tour in Vietnam with the 334th Armed Helicopter Company at Bien Hoa from 1967-1968 as Crew Chief on an AH-1G Cobra gunship. From there, I went to Ft. Eustis, VA, and taught aviation maintenance for about two years. I attended the Rotary Wing Tech Inspector course there in 1971.
I served my second tour in Vietnam with A Troup, 1/9th Cavalry for three months and was re-assigned to A Troop 7/17th Cavalry as a Rotary Wing Tech Inspector. From there, I was assigned to Ft. Hood, TX, first as a Crew Chief on a UH-1H, and then as a Tech Inspector.
I was assigned to the Aviation Detachment, Berlin Brigade at Templehof from 1974-1976. There I served as a Crew Chief on a UH-1H, and an assistant operations specialist until I was re-assigned back to the states, where I served as Administrative NCO at Ft. Bragg, NC. I returned to the Nuremberg area in 1980-1985 where I served as Administrative NCO in various positions with the 1st Armored Division. Upon returning to the states, I was assigned to Ft. Campbell, KY, where I served as PSNCO for the 101st MP Battalion until I retired from the Army in 1985.
My interest in photography became serious in 1974, when I started shooting photos semi-professionally. Shortly thereafter I began to work professionally, shooting portraits, weddings, and special events.
I enjoy all types of photography. My military aviation background led to an interest in photographing airshows and warbirds as well. The first photos I took of a Warbird Heritage Foundation aircraft was of their T-2 Buckeye when it attended a fly-in breakfast in Burlington.
