Warbird Rides

Warbird Ride FAQ's
(Frequently Asked Questions)
When are Warbird rides available?

All flights are by appointment only. Our flight season runs from May until the end of October. These months usually provide the best weather for the comfort of our passenger in the airplane and their family members who may be waiting on the ground. Extreme temperatures and harsh weather conditions can also be harmful to our aircraft.

How can I schedule my flight?

Call 847-244-8701 to schedule your flight. All sales and scheduling are done by phone. If no one is in when you call, just leave a voice mail and your call will be returned. We do not schedule via the internet. All flights are by appointment only. Flights must be scheduled at least 14 days in advance. Payment by check is preferred.

Are gift certificates available?

A flight certificate may be purchased as a gift for a friend or relative. Call 847-244-8701 to order one today. A flight certificate works like an airline boarding pass. You will have to schedule the flight separately (see the previous question).

How long is my flight certificate good?

A flight certificate is good for one year from the date of purchase. If you had a flight scheduled and were forced to reschedule due to weather and haven't been able to fly by the end of the flying season in October, your flight certificate will be extended to the next flying season at no additional charge. Special consideration is given to illness, and other issues by prior arrangement.

Can I reschedule my flight?

Yes. If you are unable to fly at the scheduled time because of unexpected illness, work commitment, or personal reasons, please let us know as soon as possible. We will be happy to reschedule your flight.

How should I prepare for my flight?

You should plan to arrive at the airport 20 minutes before your scheduled flight time. There will be an aircraft familiarity and safety briefing before your flight. Remember to bring your camera and film! You will want pictures of yourself with the aircraft. The family of our passengers are welcome to visit our hangar to see the airplane, and wait in our lounge where there is a great view of aircraft landing and taking off.

Does the passenger fly in the front or the rear cockpit?

Our passengers generally fly in the rear cockpit for safety reasons. The only exception to this is the Stearman, where passengers fly in the front cockpit.

Should I be concerned about the weather on the day my flight is scheduled?

All passengers should call our office at 847-244-8701 the day before their flight to confirm that weather conditions will be acceptable. If the weather forecast indicates that conditions will not be suitable for a safe and enjoyable flight, the passenger can reschedule as necessary. Our intention is to save a trip to the airport.

How are your aircraft maintained?

All maintenance is carried out or supervised by our staff. Our in-house mechanics are FAA Certified and we only use FAA Certified Contract Maintenance Facilities. WHF aircraft maintenance personnel have decades of aircraft maintenance experience and are intimately familiar with all of our aircraft. Our aircraft undergo periodic maintenance and a thorough annual inspection. They are impeccably maintained at all times.

What is the Warbird Heritage Foundation's safety record?

Safety of flight is paramount at WHF. We have never had an incident or accident or mechanical in flight failure resulting in either an incident or accident. Our aircraft are maintained to the highest degree humanly possible, and we fly only on days when the weather is appropriate for a safe and enjoyable flight.
